It was a busy weekend around the homestead.  Two really long days of moving stuff and putting some finishing touches on the cabin.  We cleaned out the storage unit with two trips full of stuff.  The wife has to make one more stop on the way home from work and we are released from throwing $85 a month away to store our stuff.  It is all at the cabin now, or in the shed.  A wonderful feeling.

It rained off and on sunday so we made a couple runs from the little house to the cabin with stuff.  Between the thunder cells we either unloaded, loaded or worked inside.  We got a whole bunch of stuff moved, mostly building materials and tools.  We did loose a wheelbarrow on the highway at 40 mph.  It came right out of the trailer 2x.  Once landing upright the other, it cartwheeled spectacularly.  I am glad to report that it is hardly even scratched.  True Temper makes a solid wheel barrow.

In another big step we started organizing the rooms and putting stuff in place.  The rumpus room is pretty much set up, and I installed the shelving units by the door and in the bedroom.  I really like the closetmaid system.  We used it at 3200 and took it with us to install here.  With no closets, it is nice to turn a whole wall into a closet in about 1 hour.  It is very easy to work with and very sturdy.  It is totally modular and can be reconfigured at will.

Now on to cabinets, I should have the wood in for the cabinet doors on Tuesday, now i need to order hinges and drawer slides as well as some pulls.  Come on Norvado, install my fiber cables, we are so close to moving.

Started off the night by picking up a trailer to get the rest of the stuff from storage tomorrow.  Huge step there and a nice way to save $85 a month.  Finally opened my 40oz of OE 800 HG. That is high gravity folks, malt liquor.  It was delicious.

Then we assembled the sleep number bed we were gifted.  Those things are complete insanity.  It had 5 boxes of foam and bits, air bladders and pumps but we figured it out.  And I have to say it was pretty comfy.

After taking a 5 minute power nap the wife convinced me to do some work so I chiseled out the doors and installed the hardware.

Got a bunch done over the past two days.  Desk top is mounted, doors are painted.  We started cleaning the floor tonight and got like 80% or so done.  We had to move everything to clean the floor so it is all piled up in one corner.  We will move everything out of that corner to clean there eventually.  Tomorrow we are going to start bringing some of the last bit in storage and set up the bed to get an idea of how it fills the space.

There are a few spots on the floor that the simple green didn’t clean.  Those are most likely primer.  Going to have to slather a bit of paint thinner on there and see if I can get that to come off.  Also the previous owners duct taped carpet to the floor by the door.  That adhesive is going to need some persuasion as well.

Really starting to look like a house now.  Can’t wait to start setting stuff up in there.

A surprising amount of work got done tonight.  Sanded the desk, and the wife put a second coat on it.  I put trim on a few more things.  I seem to keep finding things to put trim on but I am totally out of cut offs now so I think I am really done.  I even did the electrical box.  And once it was on, I realized it was out of square so I took it off and fixed it.

I installed the wash stand and chip box lid that the wife has been staining.  It looks amazing.  Much better than plain pine.  The wife was on fire and painted two of the doors as well.  I sort of just putzed around putting trim on this and that and wandering around.  I did manage to start cleaning stuff up, since I really almost done with construction.  Besides the cabinets but we need to start cleaning so we can clean the floor.

Feeling better about the cabinet doors at least hopefully I can order that material soon and start working on them once I pick up a few tools.

Here is the pictures from the last two days of construction.  We are basically done with the trim now.  I have a few small things to do.  Little details to trim yet but for the most part it is done.  That feels pretty nice.

One more coat of paint on the desk should finish that.  I think I might make some shelves for the desk but that will be in the future.  We need to give the floor a good cleaning.  Get the bathroom flooring in, and start working on the cabinet doors and drawers.  That is going to be the most technically difficult stage of the project.  Having never built drawers or cabinets before, I have a lot to learn.  I also have a lot of tools and jigs that need to be acquired and built.

Number one is a crosscut sled for the table saw.  I also need a dado setup and perhaps may have to make or buy a router table.  I need to decide which type of drawers and doors to make once that is finalized, I can start making some of this stuff.  Until then, we are going to clean, and probably start moving some stuff in.

Got a bunch of work done today.  All well within my comfort zone at this point.  We went to the hardware store and picked up a polyurethane, stain combo for the bathroom wash stand, paint for the desk, a router bit, halogen bulb and some other misc stuff.

When we got back I got the light working.  One of the contacts was pretty corroded so it took a bit of horsing around to get the light working but it works great now and the motion sensor is also working.

I finished up the base trim for the windows.  It all looks great, very classic look and I am happy with it.  I routed a nice round over on the desk, cut cord holes in it and then sanded it.  The wife stained the bathroom wash stand and it looks great with the walnut stain on the pine boards.

I picked up some more pine 1×4′s for the door casement extension and started working on getting the opening prepped for installing those.  I have to take the doors of the hinges to finish that so it needed to wait til tomorrow.  Really looking good in there now as we finish up these last details.

I foamed, installed the window jamb extensions, and then trimmed all but the undersides of the windows.  We grilled some steaks and potatoes, and the wife painted the supports for the wash stand and desk.  Moving along, I should finish up the windows in the morning tomorrow and then do some more work on the table tops, polyurethane and paint.  It was a nice end to a crappy week.  Good riddance week, we are ready for the weekend.

Really making some progress now.  The space is defined and the details are pouring in.  I built this monster L-shaped desk tonight.  I had been researching and planning.  You all may remember my 3d model, well here it is in Real-D.  I tweaked a few things from the model to make it work with the stud locations in the wall but this desk is pretty amazing.  It is 8 feet on each side minus about 6 inches on one of the left side.

I am going to cut some cord holes, rout the edges and paint it now.  I am super excited to work on it now.  There is so much space, that I might even share about 2 feet of it with the wife.  Check out the instructable if you want to make your own.  The whole desk cost about $60.  And I am pretty sure I could stand on it.  Triangles are great for strength.

The window jambs got the first coat of paint.  I also built the nifty wash stand for the bathroom.  It will hold a bowl and pitcher.  You know, like old school.  I used the same design that I am going to use for my desk.  It was easy, super strong, and inexpensive.  I think it looks mighty nice.

I also put together a quick lid for the chip box out of some scrap left over from the windows.  Tomorrow I start working on my desk.  Should go pretty easy considering how easy it was building this little table.

And more work was done.  On to tables and cabinets.
